Vladimir Nikitović

President

Vladimir Nikitović received his academic education at the University of Belgrade – a PhD in Demography at the Faculty of Economics (PhD dissertation: Probabilistic approach to projecting population of Serbia), MSc in Demography at the Faculty of Geography, and BSc in Geography at the Faculty of Sciences.

Nikitović started his research career in January 1999, as a scholarship holder of the Ministry of science and technological development, at the Geographic Institute “Jovan Cvijić” of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, before moving to the Institute of Social Sciences in 2005. From 2011 to 2024, he had been the editor-in-chief of Stanovništvo – one of the world oldest demographic journals. He was a visiting lecturer at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Economics and the Belgrade Open School.

His publications, which include numerous research papers and conference proceedings, as well as six monographs in the field of demography, have been cited in top-grade international journals and books of leading world publishers. Nikitović is continuously engaged as a manager, national consultant, thematic expert and mentor on scientific and development projects, including those supported by the European Commission, UNDP, UNFPA, International Committee of the Red Cross, International Organization for Migration, German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

Since 2009, Nikitović has been engaged as a consultant in the creation of national strategies and public policies in the field of demography and spatial development. He is an evaluator of international scientific projects, a supervisor of doctoral theses, a mentor of young researchers and a reviewer in top international journals. Since 2003, Nikitović has been very active in the public of Serbia and the wider region, through debates, authored texts and interviews in the leading media, with the aim of raising awareness of the contemporary role of the population factor in the development of society. Since November 2024, he is the president of the Association of Demographers of Serbia.

Daniela Arsenović

Vice-president

Daniela Arsenovic is a full professor (since December 2024) at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Her research focus is demography, particularly population dynamics, human mortality, population and climate change, and population policy. She is the author and co-author of over 50 scientific publications and numerous expert opinions in these fields.

She is a member of the editorial board of Demography since 2017, Stanovnistvo since 2019 and of Matica Srpska Journal of Social Sciences since 2021, and was a guest editor for special issues of Matica Srpska Journal of Social Sciences in 2014 and 2018, and special issues of Stanovnistvo in 2021. She is a also member of the European Association for Population Studies.

Petar Vasić

Petar Vasić is an Associate Professor at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Geography and Editor-in-chief of the journal Demografija.

Vlasta Kokotović Kanazir, PhD in Geoscience, master’s degree in Demography, Research Associate at the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić” Serbian Academy of Science and Arts. Research interest is related to the field of demography especially spatial demography, human capital, and internal migrations. She has published numerous scientific papers in Serbian and international peer-reviewed journals and participated in various scientific conferences. She has been a member of the Serbian Demographic Society since 2006.

Dragana Paunović Radulović

Member

Dragana Paunović Radulović is the Head of the Group for demographic analysis, estimates and projections at the Statistical office of the Republic of Serbia. After completing her studies at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade (specializing in Numerical Mathematics and Optimization), she gained her first professional experience as a research associate on various projects at the Faculty of Mathematics, and since 2005, she has been employed at the Statistical office of the Republic of Serbia. In 2007, under the “Regional CARDS 2003 Program,” she gained practical experience as a trainee assistant at Eurostat, in the Department of demographic statistics and population migration.

As both an author and co-author, she has contributed to the development of numerous publications by the Statistical office of the Republic of Serbia in the field of population statistics.

She continued her academic education by enrolling in the master’s program at the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade (major: Quantitative Analysis, module: Demography), where she earned a master’s degree in economics after successfully defending her thesis titled “Mortality Tables by Cause of Death for the Republic of Serbia in the Period 2009-2019.” She is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Faculty of Economics, majoring in Statistics.

She is an active member of the Association of Demographers of Serbia.
